Pacquiao visits Malacaņang (1:05 p.m.)

PEOPLE'S featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao joined President Arroyo at the Malacaņang Palace and Mayor Lito Atienza at the Manila City Hall for a courtesy call.

A few hours after his arrival at NAIA, the boxing hero was invited by Mayor Lito Atienza for a courtesy call to celebrate his supposed victory over Mexican Manuel Marquez that resulted to a draw at Las Vegas last Sunday.

President Arroyo offered a lunch meeting with Manny Saturday noon at Malacaņang to personally congratulate the boxing champ after his superb performance in last Sunday's fight.

"I believe you are the real winner Manny, we believe in you and the Filipino nation is very proud of you," the President told Pacquiao.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lito Atienza also expressed his support to the Team of Pacquiao in its protest against the Nevada Boxing Commission.

In an interview with the Inquirer, Atienza said, " I am joining the appeal to protest, because I believe Pacquiao is the winner and an error has been admitted."

Pacquiao, on the other hand, kidded ABS-CBN reporter in his interview Saturday night. He blurted, that one of the reason why his performance was not so good in the middle rounds is because he forgot to bring his favorite socks that he uses in all his boxing matches.

"Nakalimutan ko kasing dalhin yong medyas na talagang ginagamit ko sa lahat ng aking laban, at bumili nalang ako ng medias na 99 cents doon, kaya nagkakalyo tuloy ako (I forgot to bring my favorite socks that is why I had a blister in my toe)," Pacquiao shared.

Moreover, Pacquiao thanked his family and the Filipino people for the prayer and support he received. (Matisa V. Cabillo)
