CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Three teenagers belonging to prominent families in Cagayan de Oro were arrested for allegedly raping a female college student.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), who made the arrest, said two other suspects are still at large as off press time but the NBI agents vowed to get them at all cost as soon as possible. The other three who are temporarily detained inside the agency's mini-cell are all teenagers.

A source at the NBI 10, however, declined to divulge the identities of the suspects pending the filing of appropriate charges against them.

The same source said all of them are college students in one of the top universities in the city.

The suspects' parents are well known lawyers in the city while the others have uncles who are known politicians.

Their families and relatives visited them outside the mini-cell Tuesday.

It was learned that prior to the incident, the victim and the suspects were drinking at the Night Cafe in Divisoria late last Saturday.

After drinking several bottles of beer, the group decided to leave the place using a white mini-van owned by another teener in the group.

They later went directly to a secluded area near Limketkai mall. While there, the source said some of the vehicle's occupants got out except for the victim and one of their companions.

"They started having sex but not long after somebody opened the door at the back of the van and several persons went inside," a source said.

The five suspects then started abusing her with some of them holding the victim's hands to prevent her from fighting back.

An NBI agent said they already convinced at least two witnesses to testify in favor of the victim.

Since the arrest, telephone calls coming from different prominent persons have been received at the NBI 10 office, with most wanting to know the condition of the suspects.

Charges of rape are being readied against the five suspects before the court.

Rape cases in the country are non-bailable offenses. If found guilty the suspects may be meted the death penalty through lethal injection.
