2 lady dentists killed in Benguet By Jane Cadalig
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Two female dentists were killed after a still unidentified gunman shot them Monday night.
Alice Alwas, 37, of New Lucban, Baguio City, was in the house of fellow dentist Luzviminda Igualdo, 39, of Central Buguias, Benguet, watching television when a man barged into the house and gunned the two dentists down.
Supt. Gideon Todiano, chief of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, reported the gunman used a caliber .45 pistol as shown by the seven empty shells recovered by investigators inside the living room of Igualdo.
Todiano said the suspect used the back door as his point of entry into Igualdo's house. He shot the victims several times and immediately fled after the incident.
He said police investigators were able to talk to a witness, who claimed that she could identify the suspect if ever she sees him again.
A cartographic sketch of the suspect is to be released by police anytime this week.
Todiano said they are still conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the real motive of the brutal murder of the two lady dentists. He ruled that the suspect had no motive to rob the victims.
"This might be a result of a personal grudge between the suspect and one of the victims, but we are still investigating all possible angles," Todiano said.
Todiano said the double murder case was an isolated incident in the capital town of La Trinidad, which he described as a generally peaceful municipality.
It was learned that one of the victims, Igualdo, is the brother of Insp. Marlo Igualdo, a police officer detailed at the LTMPS, before he was assigned to the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. (With a report from Harley F. Palangchao)
