Philippine Stock Exchange elects new president (6:55 p.m.)

MANILA -- The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) said Tuesday its board of directors has elected a new president to replace Cayetano Paderanga, who resigned last month.

The board chose lawyer Francis Lim, a senior partner of the Angara Abello Concepcion Regala and Cruz Law Firm, one of the most prestigious law firms in the country.

Prior to his election, Lim was chair of the bourse's governance committee "where he implemented steps to eradicate the perception of the PSE as an 'old boys' network," the stock exchange said in a statement.

He was also instrumental to the Philippines' retention in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) permissible investment sites.

Lim has had years of experience in commercial and corporate law and was involved in the technical work leading to the enactment of the Securities Regulation Code, it said.AFP
