Miriam to bare names in Smokey Mountain project scam (12:13 pm)
MANILA -- Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago will identify other government officials involved in the alleged anomalous Smokey Mountain Development and Reclamation Project.
This, as President Ramos, whom Santiago implicated in the alleged irregular project, has been summoned to appear before the Senate to shed light on the matter.
Ramos said he is willing to appear before the Senate to explain about the project but he dared the senators to hold the hearing in Smokey Mountain.
The Senate is holding an inquiry on the development and reclamation of the former dumpsite called as Smokey Mountain as contained in an agreement entered into by the National Housing Authority (NHA) and R-II development company owned by Reghis Romero.
Santiago earlier said the deal allegedly gave undue advantage to Romero.
Meanwhile, Sen. Joker Arroyo, chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, will not summon Ramos to appear before the group regarding the Smokey Mountain project.
Arroyo said summoning Ramos would set "a dangerous precedent."
But Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said there is legal precedence with regard Ramos's appearance before the committee. Sunnex Luzon
