Palace against jueteng legalization (3:20 p.m.)

MANILA -- Malacañang strongly opposed the idea of tapping jueteng as possible revenue source amid the fiscal crisis.

In a statement, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said, "The administration is built on a strong moral foundation that will not be easily compromised even by serious fiscal challenges."

This followed after Mt. Province Rep. Victor Dominguez proposed to legalize the numbers racket.

"To tap ‘jueteng’ and other illegal activities as sources of revenue is not advisable or acceptable. The administration’s commitment to stamp out ‘jueteng’ is as steadfast as before and will not falter," Bunye said.
