British fugitive sought by Canada, US arrested in RP (4:30 p.m.)
MANILA -- Philippine immigration agents arrested a Briton wanted for fraud, theft and attempted murder in Canada and the United States, the immigration bureau said Thursday.
Michael David Reid, 40, was arrested in his home in Angeles city, north of Manila on Tuesday, the bureau said. He did not have the proper travel documents.
The Interpol office in Canada sought Manila's help in tracking Reid down after he violated parole conditions granted for his multiple fraud and theft cases there, the bureau said in a statement.
The US government also sought Reid's arrest in connection with an alleged attempt to murder two Americans in the Philippines who were witnesses to his suspected fraud and money-laundering schemes, it added.
Reid arrived in the Philippines on July 11 from Bangkok after being released on bail there in connection with a case of credit card fraud, the statement added. (AFP) |
