By Rhay G. Navales

ANGELES CITY -- While everybody was commemorating All Saints' Day, some 14 families whose properties were razed by fire Monday morning were grieving.

The fire started around 5:45 a.m. at Lipat's Bakery, which is located in a thickly populated area at P. Rivera Street along Daang Bakal in Claro M. Recto, said Pampanga Fire Marshal Emmanuel Arrozal.

Fortunately, quick response from firemen of Angeles and Mabalacat town prevented the blaze from spreading to adjoining shanties.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here reported no fatality but Superintendent Arrozal said a certain SFO2 Diosdado Mallari suffered hypertension from the heat and smoke.

A kibitzer identified as Ruben Caballes was also seriously injured during the incident after he fell from a ladder, Arrozal said.

Barangay officials said damage from the fire, which gutted the victim's properties, was estimated at P1 million.

Antonio "Tony" Anda, a former Samahan ng Mabalacat Angeles Jeepney Drivers Association (Samajoda) president, said their valuables and appliances were all charred.

Melencio Hosmillo, 45, owner of Lipat's Bakery, together with his live-in partner and employees, reportedly left the place when the blaze started.

The residents said they heard Hosmillo and his live-in partner fighting before the fire incident.

The fire victims are planning to file charges for arson and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to properties against Hosmillo.
