Horse smashes Pajero, scares ex-solon
CEBU CITY -- What results when animal and machine clash? Not a Ferrari, but a broken windshield and a shaken former congressman inside his sports utility vehicle.
A stray horse ran in front of former congressman Efren Herrera's white Pajero while it was traveling in the Mandaue Reclamation Area.
The horse proved stronger than the vehicle and escaped without a scratch.
Aside from the broken windshield, the vehicle's hood was also dented.
Herrera's driver Rafaelito Baterna told ABS-CBN that he was driving Herrera to Cebu City when the horse suddenly jumped in front of the vehicle at 2 p.m.
The horse's hoof landed on Baterna's left hand, but he and Herrera were unharmed.
Herrera, though, was shaken for some time.
After he recovered, Herrera hailed a taxicab to the Provincial Capitol where he was expected in a meeting.
They reported the incident to the Mandaue City Traffic Division.
Investigators could not identify the owner of the horse.
The horse seemed to have been abandoned in a grassy lot in the reclamation area.
Baterna said he could not believe he would actually encounter an accident with a horse in a highly urbanized area like Mandaue City.
He thought a scene like that was only possible in the rural areas.
Police warned owners should not put their animals to pasture near highways to avoid risks. (MEA)
