No major leads yet on slay of Chavit's secretary (1:58 p.m.)

MANILA -- Police face a blank wall on the motive behind the killing of the personal secretary of Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson's Tuesday night.

Western Police District (WPD) Chief Pedro Bulaong said they are still looking at all possible angles behind the murder of Marlene Perez, 53, an employee of Singson's office in San Andres, Manila, was killed.

Chief Superintendent Bulaong said his men are in pursuit of the killer.

He also did not comment if the killing had to do with the plunder case against former President Joseph Estrada.

"We cannot say as of this time because we are still investigating all angles. We have to arrest the killer first so that we can get information from him," he said.

The WPD has released a cartographic sketch of the gunman based on the testimony and description of witnesses.

The killer was about 30 to 35 years old, 5'7" in height, dark complexioned and medium built. He was wearing black shirt and bull cap.

Perez was shot dead by a lone gunman while walking along Malvar corner Leon Guinto Streets in Malati, Manila. She succumbed to three gunshot wounds at the back. (JFF)
