Public given until Tuesday to visit Poe's wake
MANILA -- Supporters and friends in and out of the entertainment industry of the late movie icon and former opposition presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. will have until Tuesday night to pay their last respects to the acknowledged King of Philippine Movies at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City.
Susan Tagle, spokesperson of the Poe family, said public viewing on Poe's remains is only until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
This, Tagle said, is meant to give the Poe family privacy and spend the remaining hours together with the movie actor prior to his burial Wednesday morning.
She said the actor's widow, Susan Roces, and the entire Poe family is very grateful for the support extended to them.
Necrological services will be held at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The funeral mass for Poe is set on 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Poe's body will be ferried from the church to the Manila North Cemetery starting at 4 a.m.
The funeral march will pass through Quezon Avenue and Espana Road, going towards North Manila Cemetery (formerly La Loma) in Manila for the actor's burial.
Poe will be buried beside his parents Fernando Poe Sr. and Elizabeth "Bessie" Kelly, and brother Andy.
Former President Joseph Estrada, Poe's long-time buddy, is expected to go to the church to attend the funeral mass for Poe.
Estrada was given 24 hours by the Sandiganbayan to visit Poe's wake.
He is required to be back to his detention cell in Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The former president had been disallowed by the Sandiganbayan to attend Poe's funeral. Estrada is facing plunder charges before the anti-graft court. (JFF)
