3 UK-bound 'illegals' apprehended in airport
By Albert B. Lacanlale

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) ordered the deportation of three Chinese nationals who were caught carrying fake British passports at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.

Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the BI board of commissioners ordered the three kicked out of the country.

The suspects, whose identities were withheld by the BI, admitted during investigation they were Chinese nationals and not Britons, and that they intended to use the British passports to gain entry to the United Kingdom.

Three others, a courier of a human trafficking syndicate and two Chinese nationals who were victims of human smuggling, were apprehended at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) while they were about to leave for other countries using the Philippines as a jump-off point.

Fernandez identified the alleged courier as Tan Chuan Boo, who was accompanying two of his compatriots to the US.

The two passengers, identified as Chen Yan Qin and Yu Mei Rong, were both arrested together with Tan before they could board a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight bound for Los Angeles.

They were barred from leaving after members of the Naia-BI monitoring and enforcement unit discovered that Tan's companions were in possession of fake Singaporean passports, which they planned to use in gaining illegal entry to the US.

Tan later admitted during questioning that he was going to accompany Chen and Yu to the US and that he was responsible for securing their spurious documents.

According to the BI chief, all six would-be deportees were fined P50,000 each as additional penalty for violating Philippine immigration laws.

He added that the aliens were also placed in the immigration blacklist and are banned from re-entering the Philippines.
