Kidnapped couple rescued, 10 suspects nabbed
MANILA -- Two kidnap victims were rescued in a raid conducted by joint elements of the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Force (Naktaf), Naval Intelligence Security Group, and Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (Pacer) in a Las Piñas apartment Sunday dawn.
The raiding team also arrested 10 suspected kidnappers, whose identities they withheld pending presentation to the media by Naktaf and PNP Chief Edgar Aglipay.
Navy spokesman Geronimo Malabanan said they raided the suspects' apartment at No. 38 Birds St., Hanyusin village, Talon 14 at 2 a.m. and from there rescued Katrina Schoof, 20, and her boyfriend, Jeffrey Cruz, 26.
Cruz and Schoof had been in held captive since they were seized Tuesday night in front of the Starbucks coffee shop in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa City. Both were unharmed by their captors.
The kidnappers demanded P30 million (US$537,442; euro410,292) ransom but their relatives did not pay.
National Capital Region Police Office Chief Avelino Razon Jr. last Friday announced the kidnapping of the two victims.
Subsequently, Malabanan said a concerned citizen called and reported to them "that several, all new personalities, forcibly brought in two unidentified persons--a male and a female--to the apartment."
"The information was developed into actionable intelligence by our operatives, after which we immediately passed on said information to the Naktaf and Pacer," he said.
Malabanan said the 10 suspects are under the custody of Naktaf in Camp Crame. (Sunnex Luzon/JFF with AP)
