Police close Kalibo carnage probe (1:02 p.m.) By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
BACOLOD -- Chief Supt. George Aliņo, police regional director of Western Visayas, said the bloodbath at the height of the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan last Sunday is considered "closed case."
"As far as our investigation is concerned the case is declared closed. The perpetrator is already dead," he said referring to PO1 Jonathan Moreņo who gunned down six police officers and a 10-year-old girl.
Aliņo said police investigators are taking into consideration the conduct of in-depth investigation to uncover the mastermind who may have influenced Moreņo to kill his superior Supt. Odelardo Magayanes, Aklan Police Provincial Office officer-in-charge, and Kalibo Police Station commander Chief Insp. Emmanuel Ilijay Jr., among others.
"This mastermind will be answerable to the law and will also be charged," added Aliņo.
The police regional director said they are not discounting the possibility that the mastermind could be the controversial jailed suspected drug lord Jose Kim "Boy" Cuadra from Bacolod City.
Cuadra allegedly pressured Moreņo to either retract as witness against him or kill Magayanes.
Moreņo was the principal witness in the drug case of Cuadra in Kalibo, Aklan. Aliņo said Cuadra's case is up for resolution anytime now.
He also said the recent carnage in Kalibo won't totally affect the status of the case against the known drug lord in Western Visayas. (Sun.Star Bacolod) |
