Another member of 'Mendoza' gun-for-hire falls

DAGUPAN CITY -- Another member of the notorious Mendoza gun-for-hire group was arrested in Dagupan City Thursday dawn by operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Dexter Descaliar, alias Boy Negro and a resident of Barangay Carangalan here, was arrested at his residence through a warrant issued by Judge Marlon Menesses of the Malasiqui Municipal Trial Court.
"At first, Boy Negro resisted; so we had to bring him bodily," said NBI agent Dave Alunan.
With the arrest of Descaliar and other members of the group, Alunan expressed optimism that summary killings in Dagupan and Pangasinan would lessen.
First to be arrested was Cesar Viray of Barangay Malimpuec, Malasiqui, who was involved in the frustrated killing of Barangay Bakitiw chief Ruben Palaganas in the town of Malasiqui.
After Viray's apprehension, Wilfredo "Willy" Mendoza, the alleged leader of the group, surrendered.
Alunan said the NBI already has information on the whereabouts of the other members but he begged off from providing details to avoid jeopardizing the ongoing operation.
He added that group is tagged as being behind the series of killings and attempted killings of some prominent and political personalities in Pangasinan.
The group of Mendoza has also been implicated in the frustrated robbery-holdup of one family along Amado Street in Barangay Tapuac, Dagupan. They shot and injured two members of the family when they failed to get the P900,000 in cash.
