DAVAO CITY -- Five rebels and two soldiers died while five others were wounded when the New People's Army and government soldiers clashed near the gold rush site of Diwalwal in Monkayo, Compostela Valley Saturday.

Major General Samuel Bagasin, commander of the Army's 4th Infantry Division, said the encounter took place at Sitio Puting Bato, Barangay Ngan in Diwalwal around 9 a.m. of February 5.
