Gov't workers to get bonus on Valentine's Day (9:35 p.m.)
MALACAŅANG Tuesday said government's 1.4 million workers can look forward to a productivity bonus of at least P1,000 on Valentine's Day.
Press secretary and presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye said the productivity enhancement pay would range from P1,000 to P2,000 depending on the savings of government agencies.
Acting Budget Secretary Mario Relampagos said the budget department will finalize the amount on Wednesday, the deadline for government agencies to submit reports on their savings, before making recommendations to President Arroyo.
After the total savings is computed, it will be divided among the 1.4 government workers.
Relampagos said Arroyo will make the announcement on Friday and will issue an administrative order. He said the government workers will be able to get their bonus on February 14 because the money would be released through bank-to-bank transaction. (Sunnex Luzon/RB)
