Ex-solon nabbed for kidnapping
MANILA -- Former Quezon City representative and movie star Dennis Roldan and six others, including a barangay chairman in Quezon City, were arrested Sunday for alleged kidnapping.
Members of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (Pacer) in Quezon City arrested Roldan, 48, whose real name is Mitchell Gumabao, at his residence at No. 1 Dodge Street, Filinvest II, Quezon City. Roldan is a former congressman of Quezon City's third district and a known actor in the Philippine cinema.
Arrested with Roldan were Octavio Garces, 50, a chairman of Barangay East Kamias in Quezon City; Romeo Orcajada, 43, of Barangay Silangan, Quezon City; Rowena Prado, 27, and Noel San Andres, 38, both of Payatas, Quezon City; Alberto Pagdanganan, 37, of Apalit, Pampanga; and Adrian Domingo, 27, also of Apalit, Pampanga.
Roldan's group was tagged as responsible for the kidnapping of a three-year-old Filipino-Chinese boy named Kenshi "Ke-hen" Yu in Ortigas Center, Pasig City last Feb. 9.
Prior to the arrest, Pacer members rescued the victim at the suspects' alleged safe house on Harvard Street in Cubao, Quezon City.
Demand
Pacer Chief Roberto Delfin said the suspects abducted the victim in front of Chef and Brewer Café and Restaurant at the corner of Sapphire Road and Emerald Avenue in Barangay San Antonio, Pasig City.
A report said the victim, accompanied by his nanny, was on his way to his nursery school when three men, at gunpoint, forced the boy into a Hondo CRV vehicle at around 9 a.m. last Feb. 9. The boy lives in a nearby condominium.
That night, Director Delfin said, the victim's family received a telephone call from a certain "Mang Ed", who demanded ransom for his release.
The Pacer chief did not say in his report how much the kidnappers demanded.
Delfin said the successful rescue operation of the boy was made possible by a concerned citizen who reported to them last February 18 the presence of "suspicious" people at an apartment on Zamboanga St., also in Cubao, the suspects' earlier safe house.
Seized items
Seized from the suspects were three cal. 45 pistols; four magazines with ammunition; a black holster for cal. 45 pistol; a belt bag with a holster; a black magazine pouch; five cellular phones with sim cards; a metallic-violet Toyota Corolla; a white Nissan Sentra; white Mitsubishi L300 van; a Mitsubish Pajero with assorted keys; and a UP Manila identification card of one Reynaldo Laxa.
Also confiscated were a black wallet containing two keys; NBI badge; two NBI IDs in the name of Renato Razon, an NBI ID for permit to possess and carry firearm; blood type ID; non-professional driver's license of Pagdanganan; and assorted personal document of the suspects. (Sunnex Luzon)
