Metro Manila, nearby areas face water shortage (11:12 a.m.)
MANILA -- The National Capital Region (NCR) and adjacent provinces may see a shortfall in water supply as the water level in Angat Dam has fallen by one meter in the past three days.
Thus, Rudy German, plant manager of the Angat Water Hydroelectric Power Plant, urged metro residents to start conserving water.
German said in a radio station DZMM interview that if the dam's water level continues to drop and there are no rains to replenish the supply, metro residents will experience a water deficiency.
Water supply for irrigation projects in nearby provinces will also be affected.
German attributed the rehabilitation of the Umiray Tunnel, which brings water from Quezon province to Angat, as another reason behind the decrease in the dam's water level.
The tunnel is being repaired after it was damaged by landslides that hit Quezon province at the height of a storm last December. (Sunnex Luzon) |
