Luxury vehicles declared as spare parts seized
By Ben O. Tesiorna

DAVAO CITY -- Some P10 million worth of luxury second hand vehicles and spare parts declared as replacement parts by their consignees were confiscated Tuesday by customs agents at the Sasa wharf.

Customs officials led by Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima led the inspection on four container vans consigned to the Phil-Jap Field Import-Export Corporation and CK Create International Corporation.

Customs officials were surprised to see BMW cars inside two of the container vans and knockdown parts of vehicles in the other two since they were declared as containing only replacement parts and used engines.

Lieutenant Colonel Juanito Algenio, district commander of the Enforcement and Security Service of the Customs Police Division, said the consignees violated the importation law for not correctly declaring their goods and for failing to secure the necessary import permits and clearances.

With the violations, Algenio recommended the issuance of a warrant of seizure and detention on the container vans.

He said they would give the consignees time to present the necessary papers.

Without such, he said, they will file charges against the violators and will take custody of the contraband for proper disposal.

In December last year, customs police also seized six container vans with 16 vehicles inside.

The vans were consigned to Champ Motors Incorporated and estimated to be worth P6 million.

The contraband was declared as used truck replacement parts by the consignee.

mcalvo - My graduation was unforgettable to me and to my classmates. I was so drunk the night before graduation. During the ceremony i dozed to the point of snooring even when i was already standing i was half sleeping. Our dean has to call my name twice and the person behind me has to push me just to wake me up... graduations are memorable...enjoy and congratulations to all graduates!
