Standoff in Bicutan jail continues (3:01 p.m.)
MANILA -- Negotiations for the surrender of Abu Sayyaf detainees who went on a shooting spree inside the detention center of Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig and continue to occupy a portion of the penitentiary are still ongoing.
As of 2 p.m., Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (Armm) Governor Parouk Hussin and Anak ng Mindanao party-list Representative Mujiv Hataman are still talking to the Abu Sayyaf detainees headed Alhamzer Manatad Limbong alias Kumander Kosovo alias Kumander Kosovo.
They however asked for more time as they expect that the talks would yield positive results.
The police have imposed a new deadline at 3 p.m. If the prisoners refuse to surrender, an assault will be conducted, the police warned.
The detainees are demanding for a speedy trial of the cases against them and presentation before the media if they surrender.
The 121 Abu bandits continue to hold the second floor of the prison building.
Police authorities gave the Abu Sayyaf inmates until 3 p.m. to lay down the firearms they grabbed from the jail guard, otherwise they would be forced to assault the Abu detainees' whereabouts.
Limbong's group seized at least three short firearms of the personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and opened fire, killing three jail guards and a prisoner. (JFF) |
