DAVAO CITY -- Vigilantes in Davao City have come back to work after a two-week lull, killing this time a 17-year-old high school student in Buhangin.

Nespaul Rebusura is the 55th victim of the shadowy group that has been dubbed the Davao Death Squad by police and residents.

He was shoot to death by gunmen on a motorcycle on Thursday night, a day after the end of weeklong festivities highlighting the 68th Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

Rebusura, of Mineral Village in Buhangin, was a second year student of the Bernardo Carpio National High School.

Police said the victim had been in and out of prison for allegedly causing trouble in their place.

Police investigator Joseph Limbaco said the incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. while Rebusura was hanging out on a road corner in Km. 6, Buhangin, a few meters away from the Buhangin Elementary School, when the three unidentified men aboard a motorcycle appeared.

Limbaco said witnesses saw two of the men alighted from the motorcycle and approached Rebusura and shot him several times.

Rebusura, who was hit in different parts of his body, died instantly, while the suspects sped off after the incident.

Residents in the area told police investigators they heard five successive gun bursts, but police only recovered two shells of caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

Witnesses, who knew Rebusura, claimed the victim had been involved in some troubles in his place. Police also claimed that Rebusura had been in and out of prison.

The police are conducting further investigation to identify the gunmen and determine the motive of the incident.

On March 5, unidentified motorcycle-riding men in Shanghai Village, Matina Aplaya, also gunned down a young man said to be a gang member.

Adriano Pepito Jr., 22, alleged member of the "Wangbu" gang, was listening to music at a nearby store along Urban Street in Shanghai Village at around 10 a.m. when two unidentified men on board a Honda Wave arrived.

Witnesses said one of the men approached Pepito while the other quickly removed the motorcycle's license plate.

Before witnesses could notice what was happening, three gunshots rang out and the two suspects sped off.

Pepito, hit in the head, chest and arm, was declared dead by Police Chief Insp. Tomas Dimaandal of the Scene of the Crime Operation (Soco).

Pepito's mother claimed his son was involved in solvent abuse before but had already reformed.

mcalvo - My graduation was unforgettable to me and to my classmates. I was so drunk the night before graduation. During the ceremony i dozed to the point of snooring even when i was already standing i was half sleeping. Our dean has to call my name twice and the person behind me has to push me just to wake me up... graduations are memorable...enjoy and congratulations to all graduates!
