Abducted Pinoy, Japanese seamen released (10:44 a.m.)

MANILA -- The Japanese foreign ministry office in Tokyo announced Monday that Edgardo Sadang of the Philippines and two Japanese nationals were freed by suspected pirates who took them hostage in the Malaccca Strait last week.

Masahiro Tagaki of the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo however did not elaborate on the development.

But a Japanese news website, The Japan Times, reported that Sadang and his fellow hostages were found on a boat in the same area where they were abducted and taken to Thailand.

Sadang and his companions will return to their respective countries Tuesday, it was reported. (Sunnex Luzon)
