Ex-guv Coscolluela's sis found dead By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan and Roberto L.Bacasong
BACOLOD CITY -- The sister of former Negros Occidental governor and now Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Rafael Coscolluela was found dead Tuesday in her residence in Barangay Mandalaan, Bacolod City.
Pamela Luz Coscolluela-Ledesma's bloodied body was found at 10:30 a.m. inside her room with what is believed to be a "suicide" note that says, "Coy, it's not your fault. It's mine."
Ledesma, 41, was believed to have taken her life using a .9mm Beretta pistol at their residence at Sto. Domingo St., Sta. Clara Subdivision, Barangay Mandalagan.
She was the youngest among the brood of 13 that included the former governor.
The pistol was also found beside her body.
Initial investigation of the Bacolod City police said Ledesma suffered a gunshot wound that hit her right temple that exited through and through in the left portion of her head.
Case investigators, however, would not confirm if the case was indeed a suicide.
They did not also categorically tag the case as "suicide" although initial reports disclosed she was alone in the room since Monday.
The victim was married to businessman-planter Jerry Ledesma.
She was an executive of the Sugar Development Foundation (SDF) and a top executive of the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Incorporated (PRRCFI).
The foundation is connected with Corral Cay Conservation, an international non-government organization that is doing marine research at Danjugan Island in Cauayan town in southern Negros.
Police investigators said the victim's husband was in Manila at the time of the alleged suicide.
The former governor said Jerry himself wondered why his calls were not answered by his wife.
Presidential Assistant Coscolluela said they were saddened by the death of their youngest sister. He asked the media's understanding and appealed to them not to sensationalize what happened.
The former governor further said they wanted to remember the victim as someone who loved the environment very much, a quality she shared with her husband.
He further said her sister loved to stay up late reading books.
He believed their sister could have been dead on Monday evening yet.
Senior Superintendent Vicente Ponteras, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said: "We will conduct an in-depth investigation. So far, we are theorizing that she committed suicide."
Ponteras said they need to wait for the arrival of the victim's husband to give additional information about her.
He instructed investigators from the Bacolod Police Station 3 and the IIB not to disclose any information regarding what happened.
Pamela's body was brought to Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels also in Mandalagan.
