Slain envoy's sis speaks up, narrates rob-slay

MANILA -- After three days, the sister of murdered Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Alicia Ramos finally talked about the robbery-slay case.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director Wilfredo Garcia said Wednesday the Ramos's sister, Leticia, told them that six men who were wearing black bonnets were involved in the crime.

Leticia, in her testimony, said four robbers entered their house at Boyle Street in Barangay Palanan, Makati City at 5 a.m. Sunday. Two of the robbers hogtied and gagged her mouth with packaging tape while the two others tied her sister. Alicia might have fought back and was killed.

She said the other two robbers served as lookouts outside their house.

Garcia said Leticia related how she managed to escape from the thieves and ran for help to St. Claire's Medical Center situated a block away from their house. She called for police assistance there.

Responding policemen arrived at the Ramoses' house at 7:30 a.m. and found Alicia dead with a towel tied around her neck.

Police said Alicia's bag that contained several items was missing.

Leticia said she preferred to keep mum for three days as she was still in shock after what happened.

Garcia said the results of the laboratory tests on fingerprints found on the towel and packaging tape used to gag Leticia and skin shavings found under Alicia's fingernails will be released soon.

The findings would help them identify the perpetrators of the crime, Garcia added.

Police believed the killing of Ramos was an "inside job" as investigation showed that the perpetrators knew a roundabout route in the house and the routine of the Ramos sisters.

Investigation also revealed the perpetrators knew what items they would get and where the items could be found. The housemaid and driver of the Ramoses have been placed under investigation. (JFF)
