2 foreigners killed in raid on cybersex den
MANILA -- Two Dutch nationals were killed in a shootout with government operatives who raided the foreigners' alleged cybersex den in Cubao, Quezon City Wednesday night, officials said Thursday.
Police said brothers Hendrikus Erik Van Engelenburg, 38, and Willem Cornelis "Cheri" Van Engelenburg, 44, were killed when they defied operatives of the Presidential Anti-Illegal Recruitment Task Force (Pairtf) Task Force Hunter and the Central Police District (CPD).
The raid was one of two simultaneous operations against "cyber sex dens" owned by the Dutch brothers after weeks of surveillance and investigation, police said.
The brothers were living at No. 66, 6th Street, Balete Drive, Barangay Mariana, Quezon City. They were suspected of running pornographic websites from their Manila house. The two sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies when they shot it out with police.
Van's wife Veronica Rellona and a certain Edward Lagutan were arrested.
Central Police Director Nicasio Rodovan said they conducted the raid at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday on the house of the suspects by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Antonio Eugenio of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC).
A police report said members of the raiding team were about to enter the house to do the search when the brothers fired on them. The policemen fired back, killing the Dutch brothers.
Police recovered computers, video compact discs and sex toys from the house of the foreigners where the shootout took place. They also rescued five women who were used by the suspects in the illegal activity.
Task Force Hunter Chief Reynaldo Jaylo said each women earns as high as P25,000 a month by engaging in cybersex.
In the second apartment, police arrested Rodoyan and Lagutan and found two more women sex models there.
Jaylo said they would hold Rodoyan and Lagutan in custody pending the filing of appropriate charges against them. (JFF/With AP)
