Vendor shot dead in broad daylight By Aurea A. Gerundio
DAVAO CITY -- A 45-year-old mango vendor was shot to death in broad daylight by one three men on a motorcycle just outside Victoria Plaza at around 3 p.m. Thursday.
The victim was identified as Wilson Ginge, of Hilltop Subdivision in Bajada, Davao City.
Matt Ronillo, also selling mangos just beside Ginge's stall, said he heard three gunshots and took cover.
"I did not see the gunman because I already ducked for cover the moment I heard the first gunshot," Ronillo said in the dialect.
Emma Malinao, a vendor and sister-in-law of Ginge, said three men on board a motorcycle arrived in the area.
Malinao, who was attending to her stall at the left side of Ginge, said one of the men alighted from the motorcycle and approached the victim and without provocation shot the victim on the head and different parts of his body.
As if nothing happened, witnesses said the gunman returned to the motorcycle parked a few meters away and where two of his companions were waiting. They then sped away.
Malinao, however, cannot describe the gunman. She said she has no idea who was behind the killing of her brother-in-law.
She said that Ginge earlier filed charges against a person for trying to stab him. Malinao said the victim had no enemies.
"My brother-in-law had no enemies. He's a responsible man. He was even driving a motorcycle at night to augment his income," Malinao said in the vernacular.
The victim's eldest son, Giovanni, who went to the scene of the crime, was shocked by his father's sudden death.
Sun.Star tried to get comments from him, but he begged off from making any statement.
