Armed men shoot at senator's house

PORAC, Pampanga -- A group of still unidentified men fired their guns at the house of Senator Manuel "Lito" Lapid in the town of Porac in Pampanga Wednesday midnight.

Investigation said one of the senator's security men heard three gunshots, fired near the gate of the Lapid residence.

Witnesses said a green Nissan Safari was seen cruising along the spot where the gunshots were heard. It reportedly sped westward after the incident.

Sources close to Lapid said since the jueteng issue surfaced, the senator had started receiving death threats.

Senator Lapid, however, said he is not afraid of the threats, even as he added that he is just doing his job.

"I'm not afraid of death threats because I know I'm just doing my job in the Senate," the senator said.

Lapid also added that despite the threats, the hearing on jueteng will still proceed on Monday.

Police are now conducting follow-up investigation on the incident to identify the perpetrators. (MHD)
