Justice bans airing of wiretapped call of Arroyo (11:27 a.m.)

MANILA -- Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales Sr. Friday warned media outlets against playing and printing the transcript of a tape of a wiretapped telephone call of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

"If you apply the law (Anti-Wiretapping Law) it mentioned no exception. This law is very strict because mere possession of something prohibited is a crime already," Gonzalez said in a radio station dzMM interview.

Gonzalez told the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to issue the warning to media organizations against playing and printing of transcript of the controversial tape.

He said media outlets that play the tape or publish its contents will be sued for violation of the Anti-Wiretapping Act. (Sunne Luzon)
