Arroyo hurt by accusations v. son (11:05 p.m.)

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Tuesday said she is saddened by the unending accusations that have forced her son, Pampanga Representative Juan Miguel Arroyo, to take an indefinite leave from his job in Congress.

"This is a painful decision by a son who wants to assuage the sorrow od his mother and to help spur a clear investigation that she ordered," Arroyo said in a prepared statement.

She reiterated her earlier statements that no one is above the law and that the fate of the country comes first before her family.

"The Ombudsman will take over to unearth the truth. Whoever is hit, they will have to pay, regardless of who they are," she said.

Press secretary and presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye said Representative Arroyo's indefinite leave of absence will make the Ombudsman's investigation "more transparent and credible" because the young Arroyo will not be able to influence the inquiry. (JMR)
