Cebu's most wanted fugitive falls in Zamboanga Sur (7:15 p.m.)

CEBU -- Rey Torres, Cebu City's most notorious robber was shot in the left thigh by agents of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (CIIB) when he resisted arrest Tuesday morning in Montealegre, Aurora of Zamboanga del Sur province.

Torres who carries a P100,000 reward for his arrest was frequenting a friend in neighboring town of Ramon Magsaysay when police monitored his presence in Montealegre.

Montealegre is a barangay in Aurora town, which is near the boundary of Ramon Magsaysay town, where Torres was reportedly cited.

The 36-year-old former police agent-turned-robbery gang leader, tagged as Cebu's most wanted man, was rushed to hospital in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur after he was shot by policemen in the left thigh, police said.

Ramon Magsaysay Police chief George Andam said Torres was frequenting the house of one Jeofrey Gumunit in Eastern Bubungan, Ramon Magsaysay since last week. According to Andam, Torres is asking money from Gumunit.

Andam said Superintendent Pablo Labra, of Cebu City's Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (CIIB), who earlier coordinated with them regarding Torres, was immediately alerted of the latter's presence.

Labra and his team arrived in Ramon Magsaysay Monday and immediately planned for Torres arrest, Andam said.

He said a joint team from his office and the team of Labra proceeded to Montealegre where Torres was cited.

Torres resisted arrest and attempted to draw his .45 pistol forcing police to fire at him. He was hit in the left thigh, Andam said. (Sunnex with Al Jacinto of Sunnex Zamboanga)
