Mall robbed of P3M in cellphones, accessories By Dante M. Fabian
ANGELES CITY -- Some P3 million worth of cellphones, memory and SIM cards and cash were carted away by still unidentified men from the Diamond Telecom Shop on the third floor of the Nepo Mall in Angeles City.
Employees of the store discovered the break-in when they opened the shop for the day's work at 9 a.m. Sunday and reported the incident to Jeffrey Ponce, Diamond telecommunications owner.

The robbers were believed to have pulled off the heist while the store was closed from Saturday night to Sunday morning before its scheduled opening.
Pamela Ponce, the owner's sister-in-law, said the perpetrators ransacked and emptied almost all the cabinets containing brand new cellphones but those that contained the older model cellphones remained untouched.
She added that they have requested the Nepo Mall management to conduct checks at the mall's exit points for possible recovery of the heavy loot that may still be inside the mall's premises.
Chief Inspector Florentino Dela Cruz Jr., chief of the Angeles City Police-Station 1, said the Glocke Security Agency was responsible for screening the exit points as implements security measures at the Nepo Mall.
As of press time, an inventory conducted by the store staff showed that the missing valuables were 479 units of cell phones worth at least P2,755,080; P150,000 in cash; 15 pieces of 128 megabyte memory cards worth P14,250; 20 pieces of 256MB memory cards valued at P36,000 and 50 cell phone batteries valued at P12,500.
Police found the ceiling of the shop torn down, used by the robbers as their entry point.
Dela Cruz said security guards assigned by the Glocke Security Agency will be placed under investigation in relation to the robbery. He said the robbers would not be able to bring the loot outside the mall without the connivance of some of the security guards on duty at the building.
He said they have lifted fingerprints and other marks probably left by the burglars that would be matched with those of the maintenance workers and security guards assigned at the Nepo Mall.
Police said they are also looking into the possibility that the robbers used as their staging ground a vacant stall under construction on the block adjacent to where the Diamond shop is located. Marks at the stall's walls suggested someone might have climbed onto the air conditioning ducts and this could be the robber or robbers who crawled towards the Diamond Shop and broke open the steel mesh panels to reach its ceiling.
