Police can't find abducted suspect By Joy G. Romares
DAVAO CITY -- The Davao City police still don't have a lead on the whereabouts of the 18-year-old suspect in the killing of a female student, or the motive of his abduction by unidentified armed men.
Lowel Labajo was earlier reported to be the suspect in killing of VL Hilay, a coed of the University of the Philippines (UP) in Mindanao, last June 24.
Hilay, a first year BS Biology student of UP Mindanao and resident of 951 Sobrecarey St., Barrio Obrero, was found dead at around 10:30 p.m. on June 24 just around 100 meters away from her home.
Hilay had eight stab wounds in different parts of her body.
Senior Police Officer 4 Melanio Dilan, chief investigator of the Santa Ana police precinct, in a text message said they have talked with barangay chief Wilma Lozada of the Barangay 18-B about the incident but she also could not give sufficient information on the reported abduction of Lowel.
"We are supposed to work on that. We have talked with the barangay captain of Barangay 18-B, Wilma Lozada, but she too has no idea about the incident, we got no additional information from her, what we have now is still the information stated in the blotter," Dilan said in the vernacular.
Dilan added they know nothing about the missing boy, Lowel Labajo, of Trade School Drive, Barrio Obrero, this city.
"Even the victim's family has no idea why he was abducted," Dilan added.
In a radio interview, Labajo's sister Leah said her brother has no criminal record with the police and even in their barangay and that her brother is not involved with any gang in their place.
"He belongs to a group of bikers in our place," Leah said. Labajo was a suspect in the murder of Hilay.
It was Leah who reported to the police that four men armed with M-16 armalite rifles forcibly entered their house at around 11:30 p.m. on July 1 and looked for Labajo.
Leah alleged that one of the men hit her mother Leonora with the butt of an armalite for refusing to say where her son was at the time.
Leah said the armed group left the place with her brother on board a gray Kia Besta van.
Leah said they have seen the same van parked not far from their house earlier that night.
Leah added that the men told them in vernacular saying, "Don't interfere so you will not get involved."
Leah said they have talked with Hilay's parents at the Patalinghug Funeral Homes.
"They told us not to accuse them because they have no knowledge about this," Leah said.
Leah would not confirm reports that her brother and Hilay had a relationship.
But Hilay's mother Fely said someone had told her that on the night her daughter was discovered dead that she was seen arguing with a man and a girl. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
