MANILA – Former executive secretary Eduardo Ermita said Friday that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will appoint acting department heads following the resignation of her entire Cabinet.

Ermita said officer-in-charges (OICs) will be named to ensure continued service to the people until such time permanent appointees are identified.

Ermita made the announcement in a press conference in Malacañang attended by the remaining former secretaries who remained loyal to Arroyo, namely, Angelo Reyes of the interior department, Romulo Neri of the economic planning department, Joseph Ace Durano of the tourism department, Patricia Sto. Tomas of the labor department, and Arthur Yap of the agriculture department.

Reyes said they will see to it that no group will take advantage of the situation and promote their vested interests. He also said the police and military are determined to maintain peace and order in the country.

Neri, for his part, said the act of the 10 former Cabinet secretaries who called on Arroyo to resign will cause some reaction to the stock and money markets but it will not be serious. (Sunnex)
