1 dead, 2 injured in acetylene blast By Ben O. Tesiorna and Joy G. Romares
DAVAO CITY -- A man was killed while two others were injured after the acetylene tank they were carrying exploded in Panacan, Davao City, Thursday morning.
The fatality was identified as a certain Artemio while those injured were identified as Samuel Sarentas, 60, and Ricardo Luzon, 49, all mechanics of Torino Car Shop on Diversion Road. The shop is owned by one Tammy Torino.
PO3 Alfredo Heliane, Sasa police station investigator, said the incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. while the victims were unloading acetylene tanks from an elf truck. One of the tanks reportedly fell off and exploded.
"Nag-unload ang mga mekaniko og mga tangke ug accidentally, nahulog sa yuta ang tangke unya nibuto (The mechanics were unloading the tank from the truck when a tank accidentally fell on the ground and exploded)," Heliane said.
Artemio was thrown about 10 meters away. His dead body was found hanging on a tree.
The victim died instantly due to severe burns. The two others were immediately rushed to the Davao Medical Hospital.
"Ang namatay wala pay complete identification kay ang tag-iya sa shop tua pa sa ospital (The dead victim was not completely identified because the shop's owner is still at the hospital)," Heliane added.
Heliane said the post blast team of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 immediately responded to the incident.
Meanwhile, Artemio's body was brought to the Rivera Funeral Homes in Sasa. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
