Cops seize P660M worth of drugs in 1st sem

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Almost P660 million worth of assorted illegal drugs were confiscated and destroyed by members of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Cordillera during the first half of the year.
Chief Superintendent Noe Wong, director of the PRO in Cordillera, said among the confiscated items were 2,996,800 fully-grown marijuana plants, 321,646 half-grown seedlings of the same cannabis sativa plants, 437,188.57 grams of dried marijuana leaves and seeds, and 90.8 grams of shabu.
The seized illegal drug items are worth some P658 million.
"The Kalinga Provincial Police Office has gone the farthest yet in the campaign. Policemen there have uprooted and burned an estimated 1,410,000 fully-grown marijuana with an approximate value of P314,953,975," Wong said.
The Ifugao police came in second with the destruction of 1,085,000 fully-grown marijuana and 316,646 seedlings valued at P229,672,600.
The Benguet police came next with P112,577,500 worth of marijuana haul, eradicating 501,800 fully-grown plants, 5,000 seedlings and 379,500.3 grams of dried leaves and seeds, and P2,000 worth of shabu.
Elements of the Baguio City Police Office also reportedly confiscated 6,425.1 grams of dried marijuana leaves and seeds and 15.2 grams of shabu with a value of P187,724.50 and P30,400, respectively. (Sun.Star Baguio/Sunnex)
