Councilor vows to bare more irregularities
By Aurea A. Gerundio

DAVAO CITY -- Davao City Councilor Diosdado A. Mahipus Sr. said Wednesday and he would be making more revelations of anomalies in the next regular session of the City Council.

He criticized his colleagues in the council belonging to the new majority for cutting off Councilor Victorio S. Advincula Sr. on Tuesday's session even when he still wanted to reply to Vice Mayor Luis C. Bonguyan's speech answering the charges leveled against him by the self-proclaimed "conscience bloc".

Advincula and Mahipus are members of a group of six councilors that is calling itself the City Council's "conscience bloc". In Tuesday's session, they were stripped of their committee chairmanships and these were given to councilors allied with the vice mayor.

Mahipus said Advincula should have been given the chance to speak because he intended to spill out "truths" about the council.

Mahipus also criticized the new leaderships in various council committees saying the new chairmen of different committees are those who would not go against the vice mayor.

"What we're worried about is that those who were placed to head committees seem not capable of going against the will of the vice mayor. I hope I am wrong," Mahipus said.

He lamented that he and the five other councilors belonging to the "conscience bloc", including Advincula, Councilors Danilo C. Dayanghirang, Nilo G. Abellera, Nenita R. Orcullo, and Paz C. Mata, who earlier bared alleged anomalies of Bonguyan in the City Council, were not given any committees to handle.

Mahipus denied they refused to chair any committee following the reorganization.

Mahipus said it will be inconsistent to their oath to serve if they refuse to lead.

Councilor Jesus A. Zozobrado Jr., on the other hand, refuted Mahipus' statement that the new chairmen of different committees in the council were afraid to go against Bonguyan.

"Kadtong gipamuli nila Mahipus mga isog ug dili magpagawng kay vice. Dili pud mahadlok sa grupo nila Mahipus. Isog man sila kay vice adtong session. Mas isog pa ang nipuli," Zozobrado said. (The chairmen appointed to replace Mahipus and the others in his group in the committees would not allow themselves to be controlled by the vice mayor. They are not afraid as well of Mahipus' group.)

Zozobrado said he will not be cowed to contradict Bonguyan.

"Mosupak man gani ko sa presidente, kay vice na hinuon dili. Kung sayop si vice, mosupak gyud mi. Pero sakto man si vice karon mao nga nisuporta ang majority sa council sa iyaha," Zozobrado said. (I even contradict the President, why not the vice mayor. If the vice mayor is wrong, we will contradict him. But the vice mayor is not wrong now so majority of the councilors support him.)
