New Armed Forces chief to continue military modernization plan (11:22 a.m.)

MANILA -- Lieutenant General Generoso Senga took over Monday as new Armed Forces chief as he vowed to pursue the military streamlining and modernization programs of his predecessors and of the Arroyo administration.

Senga also said he will practice utmost transparency in all transactions.

Senga assumed the post from General Efren Abu, whose retirement was delayed because of the political crisis hounding the goverment. Abu will be Philippine ambassador to Indonesia.

Senga thanked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for appointing him to the top post of the military and his family, relatives and colleagues in the Armed Forces for their support.

The turnover ceremony was held at Camp Aguinaldo with Arroyo as guest of honor. (Sunnex)
