Central Police District (CPD) Director Nicasio Rodovan said the incident took place at 5 a.m. at Kasiyahan Street in Don Antonio Heights, Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.
A report said prior to the blast, the some 8,000 liters of gasoline from a Shell Helix gas tanker leaked and spilled to where a resident was cooking through a drainage in the area.
Investigators from the Quezon City fire department said the spilled gasoline might have caught from the stove causing the explosion.
The blast caused a manhole cover to shatter and hit people in the area. It also caused a fire that razed about 100 houses.
Responding firemen, however, were able to contain the blaze in several minutes. (JFF/Sunnex)
