Killers back, slay victim in front of wife
By Joy G. Romares

DAVAO CITY -- Shadowy killers in inner city communities are back and they're bolder, chasing this time a man right down in his neighborhood and killing him in front of his pregnant lover in Barangay Centro, Agdao, on Tuesday evening.

And still no one could describe the killers.

Police Officer 1 Eric Ramirez, investigator of the Sta. Ana Police precinct, identified the victim as one Brando Ungay, alias Bandi, 22, father of one, and resident of San Francisco in Barangay Centro, Agdao, Davao City.

Ungay and his live-in partner Emalyn delos Santos were standing outside their house at around 6 p.m. when three unidentified men passed by, one of whom called the victim by his nickname.

"One of the three men whose face was covered with a towel went to Ungab and stabbed him in the stomach," Ramirez told Sun.Star Davao.

Delos Santos told the police that Ungay still managed to run but was chased by the three who were joined by two others.

"Five men chased him," Ramirez said.

Two gunshots were heard before Ungay was seen falling to the ground.

The men approached Ungay, one of whom stabbed him in the abdomen before walking away.

Ungay succumbed to gunshot wounds in the upper left portion of his ear and on his right arm, two stab wounds on his abdomen, and lacerations on his left and right shoulder.

Police recovered an empty shell and a deformed slug of a caliber .45 pistol at the scene of crime.

In an interview, Senior Police Officer 1 Jose Repito of the Sta. Ana Police said Ungay has never been endorsed to their precinct before.

"If he's a bad guy, he should have been in and out of detention, but I am not familiar with him," Repito said.

Ramirez, who handles the case, said they are still checking the background of Ungay because his family claims they have no idea why he was killed.

His live-in partner is pregnant with their second child.

"Murag manganakay na man ang babae, dako na man ang tiyan, naghysterical gani to pag-adto nako sa ilaha," Ramirez said. (I think his wife is about to give birth. She was hysterical when I went to their house.)

The victim's body was brought to the Patalinghug Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Ungay is the 123rd victim killed by unidentified men this year, so far with nary a suspect identified and prosecuted.
