RP deports American wanted for money laundering (1:08 p.m.)
MANILA -- The immigration bureau said Thursday it has deported an American wanted by a Hawaii court for alleged money laundering.
Michael Van Hohenstein, 50, was put on a commercial flight Monday to Honololu, Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez said in a statement.
Fernandez said immigration agents arrested Hohenstein on Aug. 12 at his house in Nagcarlan town, 70 kilometers (43 miles) southeast of Manila, at the request of the US Embassy, which advised that he has an outstanding arrest warrant issued by a Honololu court.
Records show he was detained in Hawaii for money laundering but violated his probation and supervised release from prison, the statement said.
The US Embassy declined to divulge details of the money laundering case but told the bureau that Hohenstein is already an undocumented alien because his U.S. passport has been revoked, the statement added.
Hohenstein is from Michigan but no hometown was available. (AP) |
