Kapampangan killed in Kuwait road mishap By Reynaldo G. Navales
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Another Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), a Kapampangan, returned home dead.
Leticia Santos-Aguas, 56, of 1255 Caimito Street, Dau Homesite, Mabalacat, Pampanga, died in Kuwait recently after she was ran over by a cruising car being driven by a Kuwaiti national.
Senator Manuel Lapid and son Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid facilitated the return of Leticia's remains to the country. Jose, husband of the victim, sought the help of the Lapids in expediting the return of his wife's remains to their hometown in Mabalacat.
The senator immediately worked hand-in-hand with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and they coordinated with the Kuwaiti Government in an effort to ensure the immediate return of the victim's remains.
"We did our best to help the family of Leticia. We are saddened over the death of Leticia who endured to be apart from her family just to seek greener pastures," the elder Lapid said.
The governor, meanwhile, ordered Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) executive officer Andy Austria to facilitate the transport of the victim's remains, which arrived from Kuwait on August 30, from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) to Mabalacat.
The Lapids likewise extended financial assistance to the family of Aguas who thanked them in return.
"The Provincial Government of Pampanga and the Office of Senator Lapid will help the children of Aling Leticia (Aguas)," said the governor.
Local radio broadcasters Ben Baltazar and Fred Cortez, regular anchors of radio dwGV based in the province, were earlier approached by the victim's family for help. Both Baltazar and Cortez then referred the matter to the Lapids who wasted no time in coordinating with concerned government agencies.
The victim worked as an OFW in Kuwait for the past 12 years. The driver of the car that ran over the victim was arrested by the Kuwaiti police. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
