Kin eye foul play in Pinay's death in Kuwait By Reynaldo G. Navales
MABALACAT -- Relatives of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who was killed recently in a vehicular accident in Kuwait suspect foul play in her death.
Leticia Santos-Aguas, 56, a resident of 1255 Caimito Street, Dau Homesite, Mabalacat, Pampanga, died in Kuwait after she was ran over by a cruising Pajero SUV being driven by a Kuwaiti national.
Aguas's husband Jose said the Kuwaiti, who was arrested by the Kuwaiti police after the incident, "intentionally ran over the victim."
Mayor Marino Morales said Aguas's relatives are seeking the help of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in having the case thoroughly investigated.
"We will appeal to President Arroyo to order concerned agencies like the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) to conduct a probe on Leticia's case," Morales said.
He said that OFWs like Aguas are the country's new heroes thus, "justice must be served."
Senator Manuel Lapid and his son, Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid, facilitated the return of the victim's remains to the country after her husband sought their help.
The senator worked with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and they coordinated with the Kuwaiti Government to ensure the immediate return of the victim's body.
Aguas worked as an OFW in Kuwait for the past 12 years.
The governor ordered Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council executive officer Andy Austria to facilitate the transport of the victim's remains, which arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Manila last August 30.
The Lapids likewise extended financial assistance to the family of Aguas. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
