DAVAO CITY -- Army troops and suspected New Peoples' Army (NPA) rebels clashed in Paquibato district in Davao City Saturday, leaving several rebels wounded but with no casualty on the government side.
The encounter happened at around 6 a.m. on September 24 at the vicinity of Mt. Misul-ag in Sitio Tulay, Barangay Tapak in Paquibato.
A platoon of soldiers from the 73rd IB, under 2nd Lieutenant Amado Guttierez, encountered some 20 communist rebels under Kumander Benjie and Kumander Giovannie of Pulang Bagani Command 1.
The firefight lasted for about 15 minutes before the rebels withdrew to the north due to the overwhelming firepower and maneuver of the government troops.
An undetermined number of rebels were believed wounded due to the presence of blood trails in the area.
The Army recovered one M-16 rifle, 11 pieces of dental equipments, various medical equipments, one detonating switch, 100 meter of electrical wire, medical pamphlets, subversive documents, six pieces of blasting caps, two pieces of mortar charge, and assorted clothing in the area.
