Panabo jeepney yields 'Uzi' guns
DAVAO CITY -- Policemen manning a checkpoint at Crossing Malagamot in Panacan nabbed a man trying to smuggle in three homemade submachine guns to Davao City from Datu Paglas town in Maguindanao.
The policemen, members of the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) 11, identified the person bringing in the high-powered arms as one Thong Dalgan Calipa, 26.
Calipa is from Datu Paglas, a town in Maguindanao province, but is currently residing in Sto. Niño, Barangay Dos in Koronadal City.
"Galing sa Datu Paglas yung mga armas at parang cargo truck ang sinakyan ng suspect hanggang Panabo City at nag-commute na siya patungong Davao," Senior Police Officer 1 Aronold Absin of the RMG told Superbalita Wednesday. (The guns are probably from Datu Paglas. The suspect rode on a cargo truck from Datu Paglas to Panabo City and rode on a jeepney to Davao City.)
Calipa was riding a passenger jeepney from Panabo City, with the guns in possession. The jeepney passed through the checkpoint manned by Senior Inspector Ireneo Dalugdog and his men at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Absin said Calipa during the interrogation denied knowing who the guns were intended for or who sent him to bring into Davao City the caliber .9mm sub-machineguns that came complete with magazines.
"Sabi niya hindi niya kilala ang pagdadalhan niya ng mga armas. Hinihintay lang daw niya ang contact sa cellphone ng kanyang pagdadalhan," Absin said. (He said he does not know the person he was going to bring the guns to. They were just going to call relay to him their instructions through his mobile phone.)
The police are still trying to extract information from Calipa. They are preparing charges for illegal possession of firearms, a violation of Presidential Decree 1866, against him. (RCO of Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
