P5 million lost in pawnshop rob By Marna H. Dagumboy
GUAGUA, Pampanga -- Members of the notorious "Acetylene Gang" have struck again, carting away some P5 million worth of jewelry and cash from a pawnshop in Sto. Niño, a barangay in the Pampanga town of Guagua, on Tuesday night.
Chief Inspector Roque Edgardo Paredes III, chief of the Guagua police, said the gang took assorted jewelry, as well as one caliber .45 Colt pistol, from the vault of the Beverly Hills Pawnshop.
Paredes said the robbers left behind one small tank of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with hose, two small tanks of acetylene, a bolt cutter, two crow bars, three screw drivers, two hand drills, pliers, lighter and five pieces of cloth used in their operations.
A report said the group gained entry by climbing the pawnshop's perimeter fence located at the back of the establishment. They, then, destroyed the back steel window of the pawnshop by cutting the iron grills and padlock.
While inside the shop, they destroyed the vault located at the second floor by using acetylene.
The shop's appraiser, identified as Irma Garcia-Nabong, discovered the robbery when she opened the pawnshop, owned by Alberto Limson Ocampo.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation for the identification and arrest of the thieves. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
