Air Force officers' coup plot remote: Senator (4:50 p.m.)
MANILA -- The alleged plan of the five Air Force officials to install a new government is remote at this time, said Chairman on Committee of Defense and National Government Senator Rodolfo Biazon in an interview over the ANC news channel.
This came after an LA Times report that there were five Air Force officials involved in a coup plot against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The officers said there are members of the military who had enough of the corruption of the present administration and that they are now planning to remove the President from power.
"I know there are lots of sectors and groups that are up for effecting change in liberty of our country in one way or the other. But if this is combined to five Air Force officials, I do not know how they can ever think they can do anything," said Biazon.
The Air Force officials are planning to install a new government compose of respectable civilians and military officials who would be in power until a new constitution is created.
"I could say that their plan is remote at this time. There are two models for effecting change. The Edsa 1 and 2. Edsa 1 was a revolutionary event while Edsa 2 was in the context of 'constitutionality' with the entry of the Justices of the Supreme Court," Biazon said.
The senator added that military officials' plan to effect change is obviously a coup.
Biazon likewise pointed out that if the Air Force officials' coup plot would happen, civilians and the public would surely give comments. (Sunnex) |
