'Spirits' possess students in South Cotabato

DAVAO CITY -- Classes were suspended as priests and pastors took turns praying to exorcise "spirits" said to have possessed 18 female students at the Notre Dame of Norala in South Cotabato Monday.

School administrators said strange events have been happening in their school for the past three weeks, but last Monday was the worse when 18 of their students became petrified and started convulsing and falling to the floor.

School principal Magdalena Aperocho said she called in a priest when a student started to convulse.

The priest arrived, prayed over the child, and officiated a mass to bless the other children.

"We got scared when one by one our students started shouting and then falling on the floor in petrified fits," Aperocho said.

The principal said some of the girls were muttering, "Don't take me. I will not go with you."

Aperocho added the girls were stronger than the people trying to help them, making it difficult to hold them down.

But after the strange attacks, the girls had no strength left and could only sit on the benches.

Classes were suspended last Monday and Tuesday due to the incident.

According to Aperocho, they would have all the buildings blessed anew so that whatever evil spirits is there can be dispelled.

Mario Castin, who graduated from high school in 1974, said this was the first time that this strange incident happened in the school.

Castin's youngest child was among the 18 possessed. He said that aside from his youngest child, he also has three kids that graduated from the school but never went through such experience. (Sun.Star Superbalita/Sunnex)
