Dead people robbed By Chris Navarro
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Not even the dearly departed were spared from criminality as dozens of mausoleums and graveyards at the Old Roman Catholic Cemetery in San Fernando City were ransacked and looted by still unidentified individuals.
Police said more than 30 mausoleums, mostly belonging to prominent families in the city, were robbed of their steel gates, windows, electric wirings, lights, metal posts, brass and gold plated nameplates and other parts.
Boni Bonifacio of Pilar Village said his family discovered last Monday that their steel gate was sawed off by the robbers.
Also, Mel Garcia of Barangay San Jose said the looters used a steel saw to gain access to the mausoleum of her husband and father-in-law. She said they have been visiting their mausoleum since 1972 but it was the first time that they were robbed.
Francesca Galang of the Poblacion area, on the other hand, said aside from the looters, another problem they experienced during the observance of All Saints' Day was the rain, which flooded a large portion of the cemetery and caused the muddy road.
Senior Superintendent Rico Salapung, chief of the San Fernando City police, said he has ordered his men to investigate the incidents. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
