Cop nabbed inside felon's house sued By Joy G. Romares
DAVAO CITY -- Charges have been filed Wednesday against a policeman who was found in possession of an unlicensed gun inside the house of one of the most wanted criminals in Davao City last month.
Sued for illegal possession of firearm is SPO1 Richard Algabre, of legal age, and a member of the Philippine National Police detailed with the Kaputian police precinct in the Island Garden City of Samal.
Senior Inspector Ruben Ramos, chief of the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11, filed the complaint.
Ramos, in his affidavit complaint, said he and another policeman went to the house of Edgar Poe on Jude Street at Emily Homes in Buhangin at around 2:30 p.m. on October 2 to serve a warrant of arrest on him for a murder case. Judge Jesus Quitain of the Regional Trial Court Branch 15 issued the warrant.
The complainant said Poe was one of the most wanted criminals in Davao City with a reward of P300,000 on his head.
Ramos claimed Poe resisted arrest, resulting in a shootout inside his residence. Poe was killed in the shootout.
Police were able to frisk Poe's companion, later known as Algabre, who was found in possession of a caliber .45 pistol with a magazine and five rounds of ammunition.
Ramos said Algabre was questioned about his presence inside Poe's house but failed to give satisfactory explanation to the police.
The complainant added that Algabre also failed to present any pertinent papers for the gun prompting the police to arrest him.
Ramos said they received information that Algabre was coddling and protecting Poe while the respondent was hiding in Igacos after killing one PO3 Eutiquio delos Arcos of Samal in 2003. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
